OUR BACKGROUND
The Canadian National Association of Real Estate Appraisers (CNAREA) is a national, not-for-profit Corporation in Canada that educates and certifies real property appraisers across the country. Established in 1992, CNAREA aims to provide an effective, membership-oriented organization of professional real property appraisers, based on their academic qualifications, training, and practical experience.
With members actively participating throughout Canada, CNAREA is dedicated to raising the standards of the profession, maintaining the professionalism of its members through continuing education, and advancing their recognition as qualified appraisers. Our members’ professional designations, including DAR™ (Designated Appraiser Residential), DAC™ (Designated Appraiser Commercial), and Certified Appraisal Reviewer™, are recognized and accepted by national banks, mortgage lenders, and insurers. CNAREA also plays a crucial role in protecting the consumer by ensuring that its members adhere to the highest standards in the industry.
The Association is self-supporting and governed by an elected and appointed Board of Directors. A majority of the Board must consist of independent fee appraisers, and elections take place annually with participation from all members.
PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
CNAREA is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism by maintaining an active role with the Appraisal Foundation, based in Washington, D.C., and holding a seat on The Appraisal Foundation Advisory Council (TAFAC). CNAREA members are required to adhere to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), as set by the Appraisal Standards Board of the Appraisal Foundation. Through this partnership, CNAREA aligns with the Appraisal Foundation’s mission to uphold public trust in the appraisal profession.
